Do you have those thoughts that are on automatic repeat? Going round and round and driving you around the bend?
We have approximately 70 000 thoughts a day and it is said that 95% of them are the same as those you had yesterday. Do you really want to keep having those same thoughts or would you like to be able to create and believe some new ones?
The way we think, and consequently feel, is formed before we reach the age of seven. The experiences that we have in that time can have a long term affect on how we feel about ourselves.
We could probably pin much of our thinking on specific people and experiences, though sometimes this can’t be linked to anything specific. However, whichever way it is, we still have these thoughts and they have a consequence on how we feel about ourselves and the world around us.
How would it feel to no longer have those thoughts on repeat? No longer feeling not good enough? That you don’t deserve this?
What could you achieve if you could let that thought go? Who would you be? Who could you be?
It is possible to not believe every thought we have. A good demonstration of that is that we can think that the sky is green but that doesn’t make it true. Questioning our thoughts and finding proof that validates or invalidates our thoughts can allow us to detach from specific thought patterns.
When we detach from giving so much meaning to our thoughts, we can start to change the way we think and how we feel.
